The Samsung Galaxy A53 5G Offers A More Affordable Samsung Experience

This week Samsung held its Galaxy A event where it announced two new Galaxy A devices. Last month, Samsung announced its Galaxy S22 lineup of flagship devices, and this time around, Samsung announced its more affordable Galaxy A53 and A33 smartphones. What impressed me the most about Samsung's Galaxy A devices is that Samsung is offering many premium experiences that have previously been left to the flagship devices. These premium experiences primarily come from Samsung's One UI 4 and features that Samsung has made standard in all its smartphone devices. 

The Galaxy A Event was very kid-centric in presentation, and although the Galaxy A53 and A33 are great first phones for kids, I believe the Galaxy A53 and A33 have many benefits for business. Let's take a look at the Samsung Galaxy A53and what both devices have to offer for businesses.

Design and display

The Galaxy A53 does not resemble a budget-friendly device. It resembles its flagship siblings, the Galaxy S devices, with its hole-punch display and camera cutout design. It has slim bezels and rounded edges for what looks like a similar handle to the Galaxy S22. The Galaxy A53 id IP67 rated, being water-resistant in up to 5 feet of water for 30 minutes. The IP67 rating means that it is the highest-rated on a scale from 0 to 6 for solid particle protection and the third-highest rating for liquid particle protection. Samsung has always been great at making durable devices, and IP ratings remind me of Samsung Active series back in the day that Galaxy devices were made to be durable. Nowadays, all most Samsung devices have IP ratings that are good for workflows that consistently encounter mother nature. The Galaxy A53 is a durable device without compromising on its making it an inclusive business companion.

I am also impressed with the amount of quality Samsung put in the Galaxy A53 display. It has a 6.5-inch 120Hz Infinity-O FHD+ Super AMOLED display. To put into perspective the quality of this display, the Galaxy S22 and S22+ have FHD+ displays, although they are Dynamic AMOLED 2X, and the Galaxy S22+ has a 6.6inch display. In Samsung's footnotes, it says that it measures the 6.5-inch diagonal of the Galaxy A53 without the rounded edges, meaning that it has a 6.3-inch diagonal with the rounded edges. All that to say, Samsung did not skimp out on the Galaxy A53's display. 

A 120Hz refresh rate should makes the device feel smooth and quick to use. It also has a peak brightness of 800 nits making it a great device for outside. I also believe a 6.5-inch display is an ideal size for a business smartphone. The large 6.5-inch display should be ideal for viewing documents, video conferencing, and doing many tasks work-related tasks without being overly large and un-pocketable. Once more, the larger display is inclusive of workers who may have difficulty seeing information on a smaller screen.

Camera system

The Galaxy A53 has four cameras on the back and a single camera on the front. It has a 12MP Ultra-Wide, 64MP Main, 5MP depth, and a 5MP Macro camera for a versatile and intelligent camera experience. Cameras bring an extra layer of functionality and convenience. 

One of the reasons Walmart chose to arm its employees with a Samsung smartphone around this time last year was because of Samsung smartphones' intelligent AR camera functionality. Essentially Samsung's AR capabilities allowed Walmart employees to keep track of inventory through AR by scanning multiple items to get products to shelves faster. I bring this up because it is one of many functions of Samsung's camera systems that allow businesses to get things done quicker and more efficiently. AR software is built into Samsung's One UI 4 and is not just a premium feature of its flagship Galaxy S lineup. 

The Galaxy A53's camera system can also be used to scan documents or barcodes quickly with the 64MP main camera. The higher Megapixel count and OIS allow businesses to take more detailed and better pictures. The Galaxy A53 has improved Night Mode so that the cameras are useful in environments where lighting may be an issue for other devices. I think this is a win for many businesses that need cameras that work in versatile areas. The Galaxy A53 also has an optimal 32MP front-facing camera and, in the era of video calls and meetings, a great front camera is a must-have for businesses devices. 


Samsung says the Galaxy A53 rocks a "5nm" octa-core processor, which is more than enough for a budget-friendly device, especially with 6GB of memory. What I look more for on a business device is the type of security, and I believe Samsung Knox is the best mobile security you can get on a smartphone. Samsung Knox has had years of proven security that I have no doubt in from a business point of view. Although there is no infallible security platform, Samsung's Knox Security Platform provides end-to-end protection and is on the Galaxy A53.

The Galaxy A53 also has a long-forgotten MicroSD card slot, allowing for an extra 1TB of storage. Most smartphones did away with an expandable storage option, which to a point is understandable. However, I believe a microSD card slot brings tremendous value to a business smartphone. SD cards nowadays are primarily used for video and photography. Having a MicroSD slot to quickly and securely transfer files from the smartphone to a PC and vice versa is invaluable and timeless. 


Even though I believe the Galaxy S22 Ultra is the ultimate business smartphone, its price and other Galaxy flagship devices keep it from being an option for many SMBs and in mass for the enterprise. This is especially true when Galaxy A devices offer all that a company device needs at a more affordable level. The Galaxy A53 5G starts at $449.99 and is available to all three major carriers and US Cellular. 

Although the Galaxy A53 is about $30 more than the iPhone SE, I believe the Galaxy A53 is a no-brainer. For most businesses that look to buy the iPhone SE, it is for the Apple ecosystem. However, I believe the Galaxy A53 is a much better value for businesses, especially with Samsung's One UI 4 and the premium features that trickle down from its flagship devices. The Galaxy A53 has a larger and better display, more cameras, and upgradeable storage, making it a much better tool for businesses than the iPhone SE.

Wrapping up

Samsung impressed me with the Galaxy A53, offering a premium experience on such an affordable device. It has a clean design that resembles Samsung's flagship devices. It has some of the best display technology from Samsung with a large and inclusive display. It has a versatile camera system with four cameras and improved and improved Night Mode. 

At $449.99, the Galaxy A53 offers all the bells and whistles of a premium Samsung smartphone without breaking the bank. Out of all of the smartphone OEMs, Samsung has positioned itself to always have the best displays, Android experience, and security platform. Not to mention the Galaxy A53 is promised four years of OS updates The Galaxy A53 is no different, and I believe it is one of the best options for a business smartphone.
